Final Chapter
Recently I completed a 9 month study of the book of Genesis through Bible Study Fellowship. I was sad when I finished chapter 50 and my journey with Abraham, Isaac, Jacob and Joseph ended. As the words from the Scriptures have been soaking in my marrow over the weeks, the song “Ancient Words”, has real meaning for me.

Holy words long preserved
For our walk in this world.
Courage, peace, a loving heart
Oh let the ancient words impart.
What has been imparted to me is that God is Sovereign and His plans always prevail. And now it seems God has a new plan for me.
As the final chapter has closed in Genesis, it coincides with a chapter closing and a season ending in my own personal life. After 2 years and 3 months, I will be saying goodbye to Uganda and my ministry with Every Village. A recently learned principle is that God moves his people to grow them. Apparently God has more growing in mind for me. It has been an unforgettable journey here in East Africa. According to an old African proverb, “You can take the woman out of Africa, but you can’t take Africa out of the woman.” Actually I made that up, but it’s true. :-)
When I arrived in March 2011 I was full of anticipation of what God was going to do. I guess, like all missionaries, I was focusing mostly on what God was going to do through me, and I have seen that in the most remarkable and innumerable ways, but I have also been humbled at what he has done in me.
At present I am sort of going through a grieving process, saying goodbye to friends and the life I have lived here. One minute will find me crying for the things I will miss and the next I’ll be smiling at the wonderful opportunities and blessings I have been given.
I can’t really possibly relate all that has happened since my arrival here, but I have sort of journaled events and trips into South Sudan and daily life in Kampala on my blog.(www.kampalakangaroo.blogspot.com) I will be updating there until my departure. In the near future, you won’t want to miss reading about “My Favorite Things” and ”Not so Favorite Things.” I will be changing blog names by the end of June so please stay tuned for the latest.
Recently I read a story about a tight rope walker named Blondin, at Niagara Falls. He precariously walked back and forth from one side to the other, drawing admiration from the crowds. He then brought out a wheel barrow and asked the people if they thought he could walk across with it. With all confidence and faith they cheered and said he could do it. He then looked them in the eye and said, “Who will get in the wheel barrow?” I believe God is asking me to get in the barrow and go to my next destination.
Initially, I am returning to Houston, and after a month, I will leave for Australia to visit my elderly parents. My future is entirely uncertain but I am trusting entirely in the ONE who knows.
My time in Houston, beginning June 20th, will be brief, but if you would like to meet with me and I am able, I would love to do it.
It is hard for me to find the right words to say how much I have valued your support, prayers and encouragement during my mission journey here. It’s with a sincere and grateful heart that I can say, “I couldn’t have done it without you.”
My love to all of you in Christ Jesus, Kerrie
Please follow me across the globe, you never know where I might show up next!
I love the way the boy in the wheelbarrow is holding on for the ride, but looking out expectantly to see where his ride is taking him. He has faith in the the driver of his barrow.
